In a historic move, Starbucks will be unionized for the first time since 1980. The company has been plagued with scandals over the past few years and it seems that this is an attempt by the staff to fix some of those problems and stand up for their rights. With their first store being unionized soon, many people are wondering what this might mean for other coffee shops across America. It’s not just on the workers though; customers may also feel some effects from this change as well!
The union has been developed at a Starbucks Shop in New York State, The management was aware of the unionizing efforts since the start and the company even flew in some of the top executives of the company to stop the unionizing from happening. People were asked to vote against the unionizing. However the results of the vote that took place at a Starbucks Shop in Buffalo showed that more employees were in favor of the union. A staff of 27 took part in the vote and 19 of those people voted in favor of the unionization.
This is however just the beginning. This is going to have a massive effect on the operations of the giant coffee house. We will have to wait and see how all of this plays out.
